BABES RIDE OUT: UK
The first Friday in August saw me stuck in a traffic jam and headed towards Wales with my best friend and über-petrolette Robin, wondering if a women’s only motorcycle festival that had organically evolved in the sun-baked Californian desert could be picked up and successfully placed in the verdant hills of South Wales. The simple answer is yes!
Fear is Temporary
There are moments in your life when you need to jump off a figurative cliff. These are the watershed moments where you go from being a person who thought about a particular thing to a person who does a particular thing. So it was on a sunny morning in south west England that I changed my life by letting out the clutch of my 1974 Honda and riding out onto the road.
TRACK DAY CLUB: Wakefield Park, Sydney
Founded in 2012, Track Day Club offers the chance for any drivers to test their wheels, set personal bests and let out their need for speed in what is a family friendly, safe and super fun event. IVV got the chance to participate last winter at Wakefield park and was blown away literally (as it was seriously windy) and figuratively by the approachable, well organized family run event.
PETROLETTES IN HISTORY: Bessie Coleman
Bessie was the world’s first African American woman pilot, and the first African American to earn an international pilot’s license. Born in January of 1892, she entered our world with an innate yearning to “amount to something,” no matter the odds stacked against her. And those odds stood substantially against her, both as an African/Native American and a female of the South before the era of Civil Rights in America.
If it Doesn’t Run, Doesn’t Matter How Pretty it is
The Scarlet Headers founder Shelby Rossi noticed within the group there was a clear want to expand the intent behind their regular get togethers from planning their rides to learning more about motorcycles. Therefore, Shelby and the Headers are now using a Honda CL project build to build their knowledge on motorcycles, together and will be sharing their lessons here for others to learn with them.
ROAD STYLE: Kinga
Adventurous in life as well as in fashion, Kinga shows us her street style, a departure from her off-road gear as seen in the Petrolette feature. Kinga’s look here oozes rockstar, with her leather look Sass & Bide jeans and perfectly worn in boots being nicely set off by the star features on her Icon riding jacket.
The Humanising Effect of a Well-Placed Machine
Danica lives in rural UK and is the newest member of the IVV family. After being diagnosed with chronic headaches, without a cause or cure, Danica's Honda CB125 has become a source of hope and freedom in a life defined by physical pain. Her quirky and honest accounts of her experiences will be featured here regularly as she strips apart her CB125 through the winter to get her ready to ride again, in all its cafe racer glory.
Leticia Cline's List
Leticia is no stranger to In Venus Veritas: when I featured her story earlier this year, she was just building momentum in her return to motorcycling after a long hiatus. Since, Cline has reinvented herself to include her passion for motorcycling and community making. And with that somehow found the time to compile them all into a list you can find on her website, compiled based on location so you can find ladies near you.
BLACK ARROW LABEL LAUNCH: Sydney
Local start-up label Black Arrow Label (founded by fashion designer and rider Hannah Smith) launched its first product offering last month in Sydney. Like many of us frustrated with the lack of offerings available for women who ride, Hannah put her fashion design skills and entrepreneurial spirit to actually doing something about it.
ROAD STYLE: Julz
Mad Max immediately comes to mind when describing Julia's style – it’s rough, tough and very cool and perfectly suits her brappy Honda XR400. Juls is a hot-chocolate drinking, screaming Banshee and abuses her motorcycle gear! Her daily holy trinity (boots, helmet, jacket) includes: ...
Red, White and Blue
Recent Petrolette Tara Henry was encouraged into Dirt by her friends at the Deus Ex Machina in Venice, CA so a lot of her gear and bikes are from within the same crew. Deus and Ornamental Conifer collaborated on this light weight cotton shirt with dirt-track intentions called the OC/D Moto worn over her armour and tucked into her Troy Lee Designs GP Air Pants.
