AFTERSHOCK: Sydney 2015

Somewhere west of Sydney in a quiet and serene part of the world, a bunch of good people on deliberately inappropriate motorcycles descended on paradise and tore up the Atkinson backyard over a weekend of bush, bikes, bonfires and beer.

Organised by the Sydney Cafe Racers it was an unapologetically awesome event, no glamping allowed, no egos, and heaps of friggin fun! Adrian and I raced the Yamaha Big Wheel (see below), which struggled against the DT's but came third in the "Aftershock" heat (inappropriate/epic bikes). Day one involved four races on the dirt track followed by four races on the flat track the following day.

This year the ladies represented in fine form, and was the first year there were enough women to make up a heat. I captured the ladies after the final race of the weekend (which you can see here), dirty faces and bleary eyed. I cannot remember ever having this much fun in my adult life! This is the way it should be, all good fun, healthy competition and no fear.

Heleana shares her love of vintage cars, riding motorcycles, and (not-so-secretly) dreams of flying planes and piloting a riva aquariva (a la Sophia Loren) very fast through the canals of Venice. Supportive and connected, community is her lifeblood, and she is as real as they come.
